However this trip I decided to throw in something a little thrilling to give my trip contrast and attempted to balance the beauty and calm with a jolt of fun before I retired for the night. After the fireworks I took a walk back over to the strip and added a little scare into my evening at Nightmare Mansion. It was a small detour and it made the whole trip feel like a proper adventure instead of only a perfectly smooth slow-day.
If you’re not familiar with the area Nightmare Mansion in Virginia Beach is a Halloween-style, walk-through haunted attraction built to feel like you’ve stepped into a deranged house right at the edge of the sea. It’s dark corridors, looming figures, sudden scares, and a constant sense that something is watching from just out of sight. As you move from room to room, the atmosphere shifts between eerie storytelling, jump-scare moments, and spooky set pieces designed to keep you guessing about what’s around the next corner. If you’re looking for a classic get spooked experience, it’s the kind of attraction that leans hard into the thrill of being uncomfortable in the best way. I would say it is part theme park experience and part theatrics. This attraction is also the oldest continuously running walk-through haunted attraction on the East Coast! There is no photography or videography allowed either and you’re forced to focus on the thrills at hand. In the end as you find yourself on a side street you only have your fast paced heartbeats and memories to show for the experience.

Spend some time relaxing on the beach. Whether you want to swim, sunbathe, or build sandcastles, there’s plenty to do. If you’re not into the beach visit the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier to try your hand at fishing, simply take in the views or book a parasailing adventure.
Enjoy dinner at a waterfront restaurant, such as Catch 31 Fish House & Bar. Be sure to take some photos with the iconic Neptune statue on the boardwalk while on 31st street.
If you’re up for nightlife, check out the bars and clubs along Atlantic Avenue for live music and entertainment. If you’re looking for something more intimate end your day with a sunset stroll along the boardwalk, taking in the sights and sounds of the oceanfront at dusk.
Day 3:
Checkout of your rental and head over to Becca inside the Historic Cavalier Resort for brunch.

Inside the Historic Cavalier Hotel Becca has some of the most amazing oysters I have ever eaten in both flavor and presentation. The Eisenhower Tarnished Truth injected filet is a must try as well at Becca along with the Signature Mile High Cake or the Apple Cobbler Cheesecake. The Hunt Room at the Cavalier, is more casual and their Wedge All the Way and Virginia Smoke and Cure with some Hunt Room Brunswick stew are perfect to eat while enjoying the restaurant’s large fireplace.
The History Raleigh Room at the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is a historic and luxurious venue in itself that pays tribute to the hotel’s rich past. The room is named after the steamship Raleigh, which was instrumental in the opening of the Cavalier Hotel in 1927. Tastings and tours are available Thursday through Sunday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. if you want to enjoy some spirits during your stay.
For more drink and dining options be sure to check out Orion’s Roof on the top floor of the Marriott Resort across the street. This restaurant is one of my favorites and has some of the most spectacular views of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
Overall, The Cavalier Hotel offers a blend of history, luxury, great amenities, a beautiful location and outstanding dinning choices making it an attractive destination for those seeking a unique and upscale experience in Virginia Beach. The Historic Cavalier Hotel and its resort area simply is a must visit if you’re planning a trip to Virginia Beach and a great location as a base for Virginia Beach exploration or staying solely at the resort.
