Fall is one of my favorite times to get out and explore, and a Halloween weekend in Williamsburg gave me a fun reason to do just that. I spent last weekend in a Yogi Bear™ Cabin at Jellystone Park™ Williamsburg and spent the weekend surrounded by seasonal activities, festive campground decorations, and plenty of opportunities to get into the Halloween spirit.

Jellystone Park™ is known for family-focused fun, themed activities, and special appearances from Yogi Bear™, Cindy Bear™, and Boo Boo Bear™ with immersive camping experience designed for families of all ages. Guests can enjoy interactive activities, character visits, and nonstop fun throughout their stay.

What stood out to me was how easy it was to make the trip your own. Families could fill their days with kid-friendly activities, while couples and friends could enjoy the cabin, the Halloween atmosphere, and all the things to see nearby. I didn’t have children with me, but I still had a great time taking in the festivities. The park is conveniently located near Richmond and Virginia Beach and is the kind of getaway that can be fun for a family trip, a girls’ weekend, a couples’ escape or solo.
A cozy cabin for a fall weekend
Staying in a Yogi Bear™ Cabin gave me a comfortable home base for the weekend. There’s something special about having your own little space to return to between activities, especially when the campground is decked out for Halloween. It made the trip feel like more than just stopping by for an event; I had a place to settle in, take a break, and enjoy the feeling of being away for a few days.

The Yogi Bear™ Cabin even had all the extra comforts of home, featuring a kitchenette and private bathroom to make the stay as convenient as possible. It sleeps up to 6 guests, includes heat and A/C, a kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator, a private bathroom, a queen bedroom and bunk bedroom, cable TV, WiFi, and even a patio/deck with a grill for relaxing outside.

During the stay guests can choose to decorate their cabin or campsite. On Halloween Weekends Jellystone Park™ Williamsburg holds a decorating contest, so you can bring along a few Halloween touches and make your space your own. I love when the place you’re staying becomes part of the experience, not just somewhere to sleep.

Halloween fun for little ghouls and grown-ups
The campground’s Halloween weekends include six weekends of spooky fun and bring a full lineup of seasonal activities. From costumes and contests to trick-or-treating and a haunted trail, there are plenty of ways to add some Halloween excitement to a fall stay. Families can plan around the activities their kids are most excited about, while grown-ups can enjoy the festive atmosphere and watch the campground come to life.

The Frightfully Fun Pass was a highlight for families with children. It included Halloween tie-dye, the Magic Pumpkin Experience, a Halloween tote, a glow headband, hot cocoa, a kid’s meal, a mystery treat, trick-or-treat gem mining, temporary tattoos, and “Scary” Stories with a Bear. With crafts, treats, and activities all in the mix, it’s a fun way to make the weekend feel extra special for kids.

The Halloween tie-dye activity gave everyone a chance to make a seasonal T-shirt and take home a souvenir from the trip. The Magic Pumpkin Experience brought a little campground magic to the weekend: little ones could plant pumpkin seeds, say a spell, and returned to see their pumpkin magically appear. Trick-or-treat gem mining added a playful treasure-hunt feel, and “Scary” Stories with a Bear gave kids a chance to enjoy Halloween stories in a setting made for the occasion.
Costumes, candy, and campground creativity
The costume contest was another chance for families to get into the spirit and show off their Halloween looks. There was also trick-or-treating and a trunk-or-treat activity, giving kids a fun way to collect treats around the campground. These are the kinds of traditions that make Halloween weekends especially memorable for families.
I also liked that guests could bring their creativity to the cabin or campsite decorating contest. A few decorations can make your space feel festive, and it’s fun to see what other campers come up with. The decorated golf-cart parade and contest added even more color to the weekend. Guests could decorate their golf cart rental and join the fun, or simply enjoy watching the parade go by. Golf-cart rentals are available separately, so it’s a good idea to check availability and plan ahead if you want to participate.

For visitors looking for a little more fright, the haunted trail added a spooky option to the weekend. Some activities I’ve mentioned have separate fees, so checking the schedule before your visit can help you plan your time and budget.
More than a campground getaway
One of the best things I found about staying at Jellystone Park™ Williamsburg is its location. You can enjoy Halloween activities at the campground and still be close to the attractions that make Williamsburg such a popular place to visit. Colonial Williamsburg is about 8.3 miles away, Busch Gardens is about 13.5 miles away, and Jamestown Settlement is also nearby.

That makes it easy to plan a trip with a little bit of everything. Spend part of the weekend enjoying campground activities, set aside time for history, or head to Busch Gardens for rides and entertainment. Williamsburg also has plenty of restaurants, so there are lots of choices when you’re ready to take a break from the campground and enjoy a meal out.
A getaway for families, couples, and friends
Jellystone Park™ Williamsburg is an especially appealing choice for families who want to make a camping weekend feel like an adventure. Between the tie-dye, Magic Pumpkin Experience, gem mining, costumes, candy, and campground contests, there are plenty of activities for kids to look forward to.
But you don’t have to be traveling with children to enjoy the getaway. I went without kids and still appreciated the seasonal atmosphere, the cabin stay, and the chance to explore Williamsburg. It would also make a fun girls’ weekend or couples’ trip, especially if you mix campground time with a meal out or a visit to one of the nearby attractions.

For me, the best part was having all those possibilities in one trip: a cozy cabin, Halloween fun around the campground, and Williamsburg attractions just a short drive away. If you’re looking for a fall getaway in Virginia, Jellystone Park™ Williamsburg is worth adding to your list. Bring your costumes, make time for the activities that sound fun, and leave room to explore the area.
There’s still time to experience the final Halloween weekend, and sites are still available! While Halloween is wrapping up, the fun doesn’t stop there. Jellystone Park™ Williamsburg hosts themed weekends and activities throughout the year, so be sure to check out the activities calendar. Plan your own stay today!
